By Renee Hansen
Gavin O’Connor, the director of the film The Accountant, has announced that Jon Bernthal, Shane on The Walking Dead, and Ben Affleck will reprise their roles for the film’s sequel. O’Connor made the announcement when he recently joined ReelBlend Podcast as a guest.
Fans of the first film will be excited to hear that a deal for the sequel has finally been completed. O’Connor said that The Accountant 2 has to happen in order for The Accountant 3 to be brought to life.
O’Connor shared this with the CinemaBlend podcast hosts:
"So, I’ve always wanted to do three because what, the second one’s going to be more with — we’re going to integrate his brother into the story. So there’ll be more screen time for Bernthal in the second one. And then the third movie’s going to be, I call it, ‘Rain Man on steroids.’ The third movie is going to be the two brothers, this odd couple. The third one is going be a buddy picture."
Jon Bernthal The Accountant sequel
The original film tells the story of Christian Wolff (Affleck), an autistic public accountant who cooks the books for criminal and terrorist organizations worldwide. The FBI catches on to what he is up to, and all hell breaks loose.
In The Accountant, it was revealed that Christian had a long-lost brother Brax (Bernthal). The second film will focus more on Brax giving the viewer more stories about this character. This will lead into the third film that will focus on the brother’s relationship.
So far only Bernthal and Affleck have been announced as cast members for this film.
It is amazing to see all of the projects Bernthal has in the works. How does he find the time?
On September 10 you can see him in the indie film Small Engine Repair. This is a film adaption of a play from 2011 that Bernthal starred in.
He will also star in one episode of B.J Novak’s anthology series The Premise.
He has roles in The Many Saints of Newark, which is a film that will release on October 1 that chronicles the formative years of Tony Soprano.
He will headline and produce Showtime’s American Gigolo series. This will be a continuation of the story from the 80s film of the same title. Richard Gere played Julian Kaye in the film and Bernthal will play this role in the series.
Other upcoming roles include King Richard, The Unforgivable. Sharp Stick, We Own This City and Snow Ponies.
Whether you were a Shane Walsh fan or not you can’t deny that Jon Bernthal is a talented actor. It will be great to see him in so many upcoming roles.
