AMC Networks’ SundanceTV will premiere its first true crime franchise. The first series True Crime Story: It Couldn’t Happen Here, will be hosted by Hilarie Burton Morgan, who played Lucille in The Walking Dead.

The series will feature six one-hour episodes that feature Burton Morgan traveling to small towns that major crimes have impacted. Small town communities are tight-knit, and everyone knows everyone’s business, which can be a blessing and a curse. When something like a major crime happens in these communities, it affects everyone as people feel connected to what has occurred because of the small-town atmosphere.

It Couldn’t Happen Here is an aptly titled series name as people from the small towns always utter this phrase when something terrible happens in their world. The series will feature first-person accounts from friends and family members about the challenges during the investigations, the impact the crime had on the community, and where things currently stand within the justice process of the case.

It Couldn’t Happen Here release date

You can watch It Couldn’t Happen Here on Thursday, September 9, on SundanceTV and AMC+.

It Couldn’t Happen Here trailer

Burton Morgan, a small-town girl herself, became aware of rural communities’ struggles when these horrific crimes happened when a case shook her own small town. Things happen in these small towns that never get the media coverage a large city would, and the advocacy groups and outside support never shows up.

In the IG post below, Burton Morgan shares how near and dear to heart this project is. Fans see how passionate she is about the causes she supports. She puts everything she has into her causes and truly tries to make a difference not just in words but in her actions. She will share information and places you can go to lend your support as well.

Burton Morgan told Deadline:

"Advocating for small towns has been the primary focus of my adult life, whether it’s fighting for mom and pop shops, or public schools or facilities like Astor Services. I believe deeply in the value of these small communities. Last year, my husband and I were able to team with the AMC family to shed light on a number of the struggles our community was facing during Covid, as we had local friends and neighbors from the Hudson Valley on as guests for our show Friday Night In with the Morgans. Continuing my relationship with the AMC family at SundanceTV and digging deeper into the issues that are specific to small towns is a mission that I’m honored to be part of."
