Will Aaron find happiness in the final season of The Walking Dead?
By Renee Hansen
There are certain characters in The Walking Dead series that you wish had more storyline. For me, Aaron is one of those characters. Ross Marquand has done an amazing job bringing life to Aaron in the series. In the final season of the series, it will be interesting to see where Aaron’s story goes.
Aaron is an original member and recruiter for the Alexandria community. In the comics and the series, he loses his boyfriend, Eric. This is a tough loss for him, and in the comics, he eventually becomes interested in Jesus. The series seemed to be headed in that direction, but Tom Payne, who played that character, left the series, so nothing became of that relationship.
Now, Aaron is the father of Gracie, whom he adopted after Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) killed her father. This has been a bright spot in his world. Being a parent gives a person a lot to live for, and Aaron has lived through more than his fair share of heartbreak; let’s hope he finally gets some happiness and peace.
The Walking Dead: Aaron
When we first met Aaron, he convinced Rick and his group to give Alexandrian a chance. That was many years ago, and now Alexandria is in dire straights. The community has suffered great losses and damage due to the Whisperer war and finds itself overpopulated and undersupplied.
In the most recent episode, “Hunted,” Aaron has crews working to rebuild the walls to keep Alexandria and its residents safe. He pleads with Carol to do her part to help with these efforts be she has other plans in mind.
Out of everyone, Alexandria most likely means the most to Aaron. He was there at the beginning and is there now when it looks like it could be the end. He isn’t ready to give up on this community that he helped build. All of his original friends are gone, many of the people he recruited are gone, and now he must feel alone and that he is the only one who really cares about the current state of Alexandria.
I hope we finally see Aaron find some happiness before the end of the season.
There is still the chance that the Commonwealth will find out about Alexandria, and I believe it will. This could mean even worse troubles for the residents there.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on September 12 with “Rendition.” This episode is currently available to stream on AMC+.
