As summer winds down and we head into fall, it is a great time to get your horror viewing list in order. The Walking Dead universe has many actors who have had roles in horror-themed movies and shows. Below is the list of horror titles featuring actors within TWDU.

The Walking Dead Universe is classified as horror with the walkers, blood, guts, and gore. It is interesting to see the actors’ diversity and their different roles during their careers. It’s also fun to compare their Walking Dead characters to other horror roles they have played.

While we will surely have missed some, here is a list of great horror titles starring TWDU actors.

Walking Dead actors in horror movies and shows

The Possession – Jeffrey Dean Morgan – (2012) This is a supernatural horror film where a young girl finds a box at a yard sale containing an ancient spirit that curses her.

The Unholy – Jeffrey Dean Morgan – (2021) is a supernatural horror film where a deaf girl’s hearing and speech are restored after a visit from the Virgin Mary. She is also able to heal the sick, and as people come to witness the miracles, terrifying events unfold.

Supernatural – Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan and Emma Bell – (2005-2020) This series ran for 15 seasons, and Morgan starred in 15 episodes throughout the series. Two brothers follow in their father’s footsteps to hunt demons, monsters, ghosts, and other supernatural beings.

The Mist – Melissa McBride, Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn, Juan Gabriel Pareja – (2007) based on the novella by Stephen King was written and directed by Frank Darabont (early TWD showrunner). After a storm, a mist that is filled with unnatural creatures covers Bridgton, Maine.

The Boy – Lauren Cohan – (2016) A woman takes a position as a nanny to discover the child she is to care for is a lifesize porcelain doll named Brahms. She is given a list of rules to care for the doll, but strange things start to happen when she doesn’t follow them.

Slither – Michael Rooker – (2006) This is James Gunn’s directorial debut, which is no surprise because we know he puts Rooker in all his films. It is a film about an alien parasite that invades a small town in South Carolina.

Mayhem – Steven Yeun – (2017) A “Red Eye” virus has started to spread worldwide; it isn’t lethal but removes peoples’ inhibitions causing them to act out their impulses.

Mercy Black – Austin Amelio – (2019) A woman is released from a psychiatric hospital 15 years after she stabbed a fellow student because of a ghost Mercy Black who is supposed to be an urban legend. Her nephew has now become obsessed with Mercy Black making her believe the spirit is real.

Candyman – Xander Berkely (1992) Coleman Domingo (2021) – the original and the new movie feature Walking Dead Universe representation. Candyman is an urban legend about a killer who chooses his victims from those brave enough to say his name 5x in a mirror.

American Horror Story – Alexandra Breckinridge, Christian Serratos, Ian Anthony Dale – (2011-present) – a horror anthology series. Breckinridge has starred in eight episodes. Serratos starred in the pilot episode. Dale starred in one episode.

The Ones Below – David Morrissey – (2015) This is more of a thriller. A couple living upstairs has just given birth to their first child when the woman believes their downstairs neighbors have some sinister plans in mind.

Mercy – Chandler Riggs – (2014) This film is loosely based on the short story “Gamma” written by Stephen King. A grandmother with mystical powers is cared for by her daughter and two children.

Blade II – Norman Reedus – (2002) is based on the fictional character Blade, a human-vampire hybrid who protects humans from vampires.

Messengers 2: The Scarecrow – Norman Reedus – (2009) This supernatural horror follows John (Reedus), a humble farmer who after placing a scarecrow on his property, reaps the benefits. But will his luck hold out?

Red Canyon – Norman Reedus – (2008) Siblings travel back to their family’s home town in order to sell off the property where they survived a savage attack. But what they find is an awakening of killing rage and that no one can be trusted and neither can their memories.

Creepshow –  Josh McDermitt, C. Thomas Howell, Cailey Fleming, Michael Rooker, Ethan Embry, King Bach – (2019-present) an anthology horror series that is a continuation of the film of the same name produced by Greg Nicotero.

Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities – Andrew Lincoln – (2022) An anthology series by Guillermo del Toro for Netflix. Lincoln will star in one episode of this series. No release date has been set.

Pyeawacket – Laurie Holden – (2017) Holden plays the mother of a teenager fascinated with the occult. After a heated argument with her mother, she performs a ritual to summon a demon to kill her mother.

Bug – Lynn Collins – (2006) Collins plays RC, the co-worker of Agnes (Ashley Judd), who lives in a run-down hotel and encounters a drifter, a military vet, Peter. The military conducted experiments on Peter, and soon Peter and Agnes experienced an infestation. It is a story of paranoia where the line between reality and delusion is blurred.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter – Corey Hawkins – (2023) Hawkins plays Clemens, a physician who boards the Demeter to head back home after being denied a job because of his race. Little does he know that the cargo on board belongs to Dracula. Based on a single chapter from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, “The Captain’s Log,” this supernatural film follows the terrors experienced by the crew and passengers of the Demeter.

There’s  Someone Inside Your House – Sydney Park – (2021) This slasher film is based on a novel by Stephanie Perkins. The story centers around Makani (Park), a transfer student who finds herself in the middle of the gruesome murders of her new classmates.

Firestarter – Sydney Lemmon and Michael Greyeyes – (2022) This science fiction horror is a remake of the 1984 film based on Stephen King’s novel. A young girl develops pyrokinesis, and The Shop, a secret government agency, plots to control her.

Insidious: The Red Door – Steve Coulter – (2023) The sequel to Insidious: Chapter 2 is set nine years after Josh’s (Patrick Wilson) possession. He is divorced, and his relationship with his son is strained. Both begin to be haunted by repressed memories of the demons requiring them to return to the Further. (Coulter also stars in Insidious Chapters 2 & 3)

The Conjuring universe – Steven Coulter – (2013,2016, 2021) Coulter has portrayed Father Gordon in all three Conjuring movies, and Annabelle Comes Home. This series of movies features dramatizations of real cases of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Renfield – Josh Mikel and Keith Brooks – (2023) The latest Dracula movie is a comedy horror featuring Nic Cage as Dracula. Set in modern day, the story follows Drac’s lackey, Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), who finally gets the courage to stand up to his master. Mikel and Brooks have one scene in the film that is highly entertaining.

Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer – Rooker – (1986) Known as one of the most disturbing films ever made, Rooker portrayed serial killer Henry Lee Lucus, who, along with Otis Toole (Tom Towles), committed gruesome murders. Movie critic Roger Ebert has stated that film is intended to illuminate, not entertain.

Afraid – Alanna Masterson – (2018) This horror thriller follows a couple on a weekend retreat who are terroried by the owner of the cabin they are staying in, as he watches their every move.
