The Walking Dead MVP from Out of the Ashes episode
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead episode “Out of the Ashes” gave us a lot of new information. A group of Whisperers who survived the war had been camping out at the remains of Hilltop. Judith has a bully in a kid named Vincent. And she is teaching the other children combat skills. Eugene and company have finally entered the Commonwealth and already have gotten themselves into trouble.
The Whisperers were hostile at first but eventually became helpful after Aaron used a walker as a weapon. And, they shared a bit of good news, news that viewers already knew, Connie is alive.
Alexandria had a wall breach, and walkers entered the community. Jerry, Aaron, Rosita, and many others were able to fix the wall and kill the walkers who entered. In light of this event, Judith took up training of some of the children in combat skills. She used the skills her mother Michonne and others taught her and is now passing them on. Vincent, the bully, didn’t stand a chance against her when she held her sword to his throat. Some thought this was a bit extreme, but she is ten years old and has had to endure a lot; I think we can give her a pass.
In the Commonwealth, Eugene and company have finally entered the community, viewed the welcome video, and were assigned jobs.
THIS WEEKS MVP GOES TO EUGENE
The Walking Dead MVP Eugene
Now before you start giving me a hard time about my choice, listen to my reasoning.
Eugene is the reason the group has been able to enter the Commonwealth. He made contact and set up the meeting with Stephanie. This hasn’t been the most effortless onboarding process, but it will all be worth the effort if the Commonwealth has the resources to help Alexandria.
One, they were permitted to walk about the community Eugene and fake Stephanie; I say this because a different actress talked to Eugene on the radio, walked around, got some ice cream, and chatted a bit. She sees him eyeballing the radio tower and tells him she can help him contact his people.
Eugene sacrifices everything to make contact to ensure everyone in Alexandria is safe and to let them know that help could be on the way soon. This is a selfless act; let’s hope it was a smart move to make. This is why I say he is the MVP because he intended to help the residents of his community any way he could.
Now, up until this point, things were good. But Mercer, always watching, catches him in the act, and now Eugene is in trouble. Lance Hornsby, Deputy Governor of the Commonwealth, steps in and assures them he wants to help them. This sounds great until Stephanie tells him that they will have to pay in some fashion for breaking the rules.
We have no reason to trust the Commonwealth yet. So, it will only be a matter of time before we see the results of Eugene’s actions.
