Walking Dead: Will Alden survive or does a worse fate await him?
By Renee Hansen
Alden (Callan McAuliffe) was introduced on The Walking Dead in season 8 when he was a member of Negan’s Saviors. He was never the typical savior type; he was more level-headed and tended to avoid significant conflicts if he could. Eventually, he would join the Hilltop community. Recently he suffered severe injuries, and his fate is uncertain.
Since the time jump after Rick’s supposed death, Alden has stepped up and become a leader in the community. When Earl dies, he even takes on the care of baby Adam, who was the Whisperers baby that Alpha (Samantha Morton) forced Mary to abandon.
Entering season 11, we saw Alden help out with a food run at Fort Connors military base. This run only resulted in about a week worth of food for the growing numbers of residents at Alexandria. Alden then volunteered to help with Maggie’s plan to head to Meridian to salvage food stored there.
The Walking Dead, will Alden survive?
While the group was on the mission to head to Meridian, they were betrayed by Gage and Roy when the pair took off with all the ammo and supplies. This leads to the change of plans to head to a satellite location set up by the Wardens, but the Reapers attack them on the way to that location. This scatters the group, and many are killed, others are wounded.
Eventually, Alden is severely injured and travels along with Negan and Maggie, ending up in an abandoned church. He knows he is slowing them down and tells Maggie to get rid of the “dead weight.” This is a tough decision for Maggie, but she does leave him at the church with some food and a knife.
This doesn’t bode well for Alden. He will most likely succumb to his injuries. But that could be the best thing for him with the Reapers lurking about. They want Maggie in a bad way, and if they know he is part of her group, they could use him to lure her to them. We have seen their methods with Daryl and the waterboarding, and we didn’t see what they did to Frost, but his face showed it wasn’t pleasant.
Alden isn’t a character many people care about, but he is part of the group and has done many things to prove his loyalty to them all. He deserves better than dying alone.
