The Walking Dead: World Beyond refresher to start season 2
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead: World Beyond will premiere its second season on AMC this Sunday, October 3. This episode will air immediately after the flagships series episode “Promises Broken.” World Beyond’s second season will also be its final, which has always been the setup for this series.
The first season of World Beyond has been met with mixed reviews by fans of the franchise. As always, it is compared to the flagship series, but this series is much different. This series is a coming-of-age story about a group of young people who have only known life in an apocalypse. And not out in the thick of things but closed off and protected by walls. When they finally venture out, they are unprepared for what awaits them.
This season will see the main cast members Aliyah Royale, Alexa Mansour, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Nico Tortorella, Annet Mahendru and Julia Ormond. With Jelani Alladin, Joe Holt, Ted Sutherland, and Natalie Gold being promoted to series regulars. It was also announced that Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) would crossover from The Walking Dead series. This means we will have to learn something about Rick. If we don’t, it will be a complete waste of a crossover.
There will also be numerous other new characters, and we’ve compiled that list here: World Beyond adds new cast members.
The Walking Dead World Beyond season 2
Entertainment Weekly interviewed showrunner Matt Negrete about what fans need to know for the upcoming season.
At the end of season one, sisters Hope and Iris were separated when double agent Huck and Colonel Kublek took Hope to the CRM. She would be reunited with her father and help the CRM with whatever it is they do.
This left Iris and Felix alone, but not for long as they reconnected with Felix’s boyfriend Will, who was in the company of a mysterious new group. The CRM detained poor Silas after sacrificing himself to save Elton and newcomer Percy.
The second season will dial things up a notch as this is the final season, and it will need to end big. You can see from the trailer below that this looks much different than what we saw in season 1.
Negrete’s highlights for season 2 (via EW)
- Huck and Elizabeth take a detour
- Hope will see her father
- Iris must deal with being separated from her sister, perhaps for the first time ever
- Silas was captured instead of killed; what will he do with his second chance?
- Elton must deal with some hard truths in this complicated world
- We can assume the group with Will was good
- Finding Will can help Felix and his betrayal by Huck
- Will is a wanted man by the CRM
- Elizabeth might be the bad guy, but she’s the hero of her own story
