Season eleven of The Walking Dead has had a significant focus on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). Their back and forth banter has gotten to be quite stale, but this week’s episode “Promises Broken” shows a bit of a shift in things between these two characters.

The story of why Maggie hates Negan is no news to anyone. Everyone understands why she hates him, but it’s gotten to the point where she is consumed by this making the storyline repeat each week. This week we will see something new between Maggie and Negan, and I don’t mean romance, like some have suggested.

From this point forward, there are no spoilers for the episode, but there is a sneak peek video of what is to come. Some people don’t like those videos and if that is you, stop reading now.

Negan teaches Maggie something new on The Walking Dead

Of the group who went on the supply run to Meridian, Maggie, Negan, Elijah and Gabe are the only ones remaining. Except for Daryl, who is now a double agent with the Reapers. Maggie and her group are still heading towards Meridian, set on obtaining whatever food stores they have, which Maggie has assured them is plentiful.

How will a group of four people infiltrate a compound as protected as Meridian? The Reapers aren’t messing around. They are highly skilled at what they do, and Pope wants Maggie apprehended at any cost.

The video below shows Negan giving Maggie some training on a skill he has learned much about.

Disguising themselves as walkers, as Negan learned from Alpha and her Whispers, is an excellent idea in coming closer to getting to their goal. Where did they get the masks, I wonder? Negan could still have his from before, but where did Maggie get hers?

It looks like whatever they are doing, Elijah is involved. He seems to be a lost soul and a loyal companion of Maggies. He will most likely prove invaluable whenever they do meet up with the Reapers.
