By Renee Hansen
Christian Serratos has played Rosita Espinosa on The Walking Dead series since season 4. Her character has experienced significant changes since she first arrived. Recently Vanity Fair was able to snap some fantastic photos of Serratos as she prepared for a runway show as part of her role as Dior Beauty Ambassador. They talked about life in the apocalypse and her portrayal of Tejano music darling Selena in the Netflix series.
Serratos portrayal of Selena in the Netflix series was outstanding. She channeled the singer’s iconic look and sound, making for a beautiful telling of her story. This series brings the music and story of Selena to a whole new generation. Serratos shared with Vanity Fair that she applied her own makeup to achieve Selena’s iconic look.
She also enjoys doing her makeup on The Walking Dead series, stating she has always been fond of SFX makeup. This has made for a great friendship between the actor and EP, Director and SFX guru for the series Greg Nicotero.
The Walking Dead season 11 – Rosita (Christian Serratos)
Rosita came on the scene with Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt and a bit of a chip on her shoulder. She has since experienced many traumatic life events and has become a powerful fighter and leader in Alexandria. She also gave birth in an apocalypse, which is a feat in itself.
As the series enters its final season, we have seen more focus on Rosita’s role as a strong leader. She, along with Carol (Melissa McBride), Magna (Nadia Hilker) and Kelly (Angel Theory), have made up quite the girl gang. They were able to corral the horses, which had to be eaten as Alexandria’s food stores were spent, and they made a fantastic search and rescue crew to locate Connie.
What else is in store for Rosita as the series comes to an end? She is currently in a relationship with Father Gabriel, who is experiencing a time of losing his religion and possibly experiencing a very dark time. Hopefully, this doesn’t end in heartbreak for Rosita, whose heart has had enough.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 3 with “Promise Broken.” This episode is currently available to stream on AMC+.
