The Walking Dead: Will Daryl tell Leah his plan?
By Renee Hansen
This week’s episode of The Walking Dead, “Promises Broken,” saw Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Leah (Lynn Collins) on a mission to hunt down Pope’s (Ritchie Coster) enemies. They never came across who they were looking for but did encounter someone else. We also saw Daryl about to tell Leah something before they were called back to Meridian.
“Promises Broken” is the seventh episode of season eleven. During the beginning of this season, the series has had a heavy focus on the Reapers and their search for Maggie and any remaining Wardens. We have come to learn that Pope will not rest until Maggie is dead.
They didn’t count on Daryl joining their ranks, and they most certainly do not know Daryl is part of Maggie’s family. Pope had tried to convince everyone that he got the information he wanted from Frost before he killed him, but I don’t believe he truly did.
The Walking Dead season 11 episode 7 Promises Broken
While they were scouting for Maggie and her group, Daryl and Leah came upon a man and his family. The wife was gravely injured, and Pope’s orders were to kill them all. They let the man and his son go but put the wife down before she could die and turn.
We saw Leah hesitate to kill the woman as she wiped a tear from her eye. Was this a ruse to see how Daryl would handle the situation, or did she truly have an emotional moment? Daryl seemed to think this was a time to tell her something. Did he feel this was a time to tell her about his plan and his connection to Maggie?
Leah has second thoughts about rejoining Pope and the Reapers, but I don’t think she is ready to hear this news from Daryl. She is still very loyal to Pope and the Reapers, which was apparent when she radioed to tell Pope about the family. She could have just left him the dark about this, and he would have never been the wiser.
Daryl told Leah in the previous episode that he is with the Reapers for her. He is only saying this to keep the peace until he can carry out his plan, which is most likely to kill Pope.
I can’t imagine that it is any more than that. Leah took part in torturing Daryl and was present while Maggie’s previous group was killed. His loyalty to Maggie outweighs anything he can feel for Leah, and how can you still have feelings for someone who took part in waterboarding you?
Only time will tell what will happen between these two, but I hope Daryl keeps his wits about him and doesn’t ruin things by confiding in someone who won’t be on board with his plan.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 10 with the part one finale, “For Blood.”
