The Walking Dead’s final season is shaping up to be something amazing. In the most recent episode “Promises Broken,” Negan teaches Maggie and Elijah how to be Whisperers. During this time Negan tells Maggie some things she doesn’t want to hear.

In this week’s episode, we find Maggie, Negan, Elijah and Gabe in the woods, still trying to make it to Meridian. Maggie and Negan agree, sort of. At least they both agreed and sealed it with a handshake. The episode is titled “Promises Broken,” which could be a sign of things to come.

Negan decides to teach Maggie and Elijah how to use the walkers to their advantage to create their army to attack Meridian. He kept his whisperer mask and made both of them one to use immediately; don’t those things need to cure first?

At the end of the episode, we see Maggie and Elijah leading a horde to Meridian.

The Walking Dead, Negan tells Maggie the hard truth

Maggie and Negan have another of their heart-to-heart conversations. Negan tries to tell her he understands losing his people, seeing them as walkers, and returning to a community she built and lost. He shares how he lost his people, and it was tough on him.

As she tries to argue that this isn’t the same, basically saying her people’s lives were more important than anyone at the Sanctuary. And using the argument that there were no families or children in his community. He shoots back, asking where Aaron got Gracie.

If Negan is anything, he is honest. There is no BS to his ways. And he isn’t afraid to admit the things he has done. Maggie is so quick to pass judgment on Negan since it hit her personally, but she forgets about people she has killed that her community has killed.

Negan isn’t saying what he did was right or wrong, but it was for survival. He tells her he would have killed Rick and all of them in the beginning. Knowing what happened after, it would have been the best choice for him and his people.

He is telling Maggie this, not to be cruel but to give her a reality check. The Reapers will not stop until either their group or Maggie’s is dead. If she wants to survive, she must do this all or nothing. He is speaking from experience, and as hard as it is for her to hear, she needed to hear it.

The next episode is the finale of part 1 of season 11, and hopefully, we see Maggie take charge and accomplish what she set out to do, destroy the Reapers and get the food for Alexandria.
