The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: What You Do To Survive
By Liam O'Leary
The Walking Dead, to survive, you must fight
About a quarter of this week’s episode focused on Eugene, Stephanie, Ezekiel, and Princess working off their sentence for using the Commonwealth’s radio transmitter to call Alexandria. They were sentenced to do what seems to be the lowest job in the Commonwealth, killing walkers.
For days, the four went into abandoned areas outside the Commonwealth (Or, at least, outside the populated areas), going into dilapidated buildings and clearing them of any walkers. They would then pile them to be taken away. Not surprisingly, they got pretty filthy and covered in blood, killing and disposing of all of those walkers inside those grimy buildings.
This was in stark contrast to Sebastian Milton, the son of the governor of the Commonwealth: An arrogant, entitled douche who didn’t seem to know how to kill walkers, requiring Eugene and Stephanie to save him and his girlfriend. I’ll get into that more later.
I think this is pretty self-explanatory, don’t you? Regardless of how you feel about violence or gore or how generally disgusting the dead are, you will not survive an apocalypse if you aren’t willing to fight them. I’m not just brushing aside how difficult it might be for someone to try to kill something that looks human or how tough it might be for them to deal with being near (Never mind covered in the guts of) rotting corpses, but these are things that, quite simply, you will need to get past.
If you don’t fight the dead, eventually, they will kill you. It’s as simple as that. Survival will require us to do a lot of things we’re not comfortable with. The first will be fighting to survive.
