The mid-season finale of The Walking Dead’s season 11 was relatively tame. The storm at Alexandria was a little bit of a letdown but it is good to see that Connie has returned and Virgil, though wounded, did survive. Maggie and the crew disguised as Whisperers was a bit tense for a moment but again, nothing too crazy. The Reapers story, well, that was a bit of a shock.

Pope was going off the rails and needed to be taken down. He was ready to fire the hwacha into a group that contained his own people. And, at last count, their numbers were dwindling.

When Daryl decided to confide in Leah I knew it was a bad idea. But, I had NO idea she would kill Pope and blame it on Daryl. Norman Reedus teased in many interviews that “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” would come into play in this season. And, boy was he right.

Leah was not pleased that Daryl, once again, chose his family over her. That is what started their fight in season 10c and she left without a trace. Now, he tells her again that he is doing all of this for his family who is desperately in need of food and she becomes livid.

The Reapers new leader on The Walking Dead

Unfortunately, we don’t see a resolution to this story as Daryl sneaks off the rooftop leaving Leah alone there. Will Leah take over as the new leader of the Reapers? And since Daryl is no longer an asset to her will she and the Reapers be a bigger threat?

Pope was obsessed with capturing Maggie and wasn’t concerned about protecting the squad any longer. To Leah, the squad is everything and the only true family she has ever known. If Daryl, Maggie and the group are successful in retrieving the food from Meridian, they will either have to kill the remaining Reapers or they will come searching for them.

This is exactly what Negan was talking about when he told Maggie he would have killed them all if he could do things differently. The enemy will continue to come at you if they aren’t eliminated.

Leah could be a much bigger threat as a leader since the remaining Reapers seem to be very loyal to her. She also has a much clearer head than Pope had before his death.
