Fear the Walking Dead writer Nick Bernardone headlines film festival

It is always exciting to see any of The Walking Dead universe members honored or showcased in other avenues. Fear the Walking Dead writer Nick Bernardone will headline this year’s Syracuse International Film Festival (SIFF). 

Bernardone is a Syracuse, New York native who will return to his hometown for the 18th annual SIFF that will take place on October 22-24. The event will occur at several venues across Syracuse and has 48 films in competition and four invited movies.

SIFF was established in 2003 as a place that would bring film and media-related programs to the community.

Fear the Walking Dead writer Nick Bernardone

Bernardone started his career writing and editing web content for NBC’s 30 Rock.  This work would earn him the Producer’s Guild of America award for outstanding digital series and an Emmy nomination for outstanding special class short-format video. He also wrote for the Netflix original series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. 

He started writing for Fear the Walking Dead in season five’s episode “Leave What You Don’t,” that he wrote with Ashley Cardiff. He also wrote three episodes for season six, “Things Left to Do,”
“J.D.” (with Jacob Pinion) and “USS Pennsylvania” (with Nazrin Choudhury). For Fear TWD’s seventh season, he wrote “Cindy Hawkins” (with Jacob Pinion) which is the third episode and “The Portrait,” which will be the seventh episode of that season.

He also wrote and produced The Walking Dead web series Red Machete. This was a six-part series that followed the passing on of Rick Grimes’ infamous red-handled machete that he would eventually kill Gareth with.

Bernardone will host a writers workshop at SIFF on Saturday, October 23, from 3 p.m – 5 p.m. He will talk about the art of TV writing and what it takes to survive in a writer’s room. All attendees will receive a signed original limited edition Fear the Walking Dead poster designed by James P. McCampbell.
