A Compassionate Leader INSPIRES Loyalty

This week’s episode of Fear The Walking Dead, along with showing what’s been happening with Strand since the nuke went off, also focused on Will. He was a lone man who was braving the unforgiving nuclear wasteland in what was an already unforgiving world. He was scouring the area for even the slightest thing he could find that wasn’t contaminated by nuclear radiation.

We watched as he braved this nightmare landscape with little water and even less food. This is a crushing reminder of just how desolate his immediate environment was. While still having to fight walkers in the hopes of getting back in the good graces of Alicia and those Teddy had charged her with looking after.

Why? Because Will was in love with her. But, the thing is, a person like Strand, who openly tells people that he’ll throw them (Literally, as we’d later discover) back out into the wasteland if he doesn’t find them useful, doesn’t inspire those kinds of feelings in people. Do you know who does? The ones who care BACK.

When someone shows those around them that they will care about them, those people will return those feelings. When you love those around you, in some way, they will love you back, even if things are bad. They know you are doing everything you can for them and that you will do more if it’s called for.

Only compassion inspires loyalty, and loyalty is worth more than gold.
