Fear the Walking Dead John Dorie Sr.

For much of this week’s episode, John made a daily routine of calling out over the radio. He hoped to get in touch with Morgan, Grace, Dwight, Sherry, Daniel, Luci, Sarah, the Pioneers, anybody, in the hopes of finding friends alive. He was trying to reunite the group as best as possible in the wake of the nuclear apocalypse.

Not surprisingly, John got no response. He kept trying, but, each day, nothing.

That’s not entirely true. You see, while John had been trying to make contact, even if his friends couldn’t hear him, someone definitely was: The Stalkers. What they wanted was not clear, but one thing was certain, they were not there to make friends.

For much of the episode, we heard rumbling going on outside the bunker; it got to the point were the rumbling became innocuous. That was until the Stalkers made their presence known over the radio, indicating that they were the cause of the rumbling, and politely asked John and June to come out. Whether they would have harmed them or just robbed them, we can’t tell, but either way, the Stalkers would have left John and June worse off than they were before.

Of course, by the second time they encountered the Stalkers, the question was moot. By this point, it became apparent that they were going to bust into the bunker one way or the other and made plain that, once they did, John and June would feel their wrath.

Once the apocalypse truly sets in and people realize that things are not going back to normal, trying to make contact with the outside world is tricky. While you could make contact with another friendly group of survivors willing to help, you could just as easily make your presence known to a large group of hostiles, who could try to figure out where you are and attack.

My advice as far as communicating over the airwaves is only to do it if you and your group are in a solid and defensible base, and have the firepower and manpower ready. If bad guys are listening in, you have the means of repelling them should they decide to do more than listen.

If you can’t avoid talking to strangers, avoid talking where strangers might hear you.
