The Walking Dead World Beyond tragedy of Dr. Samuel Abbott

This episode of World Beyond started with a flashback to Dr. Leo Bennett’s first expedition as an on-loan scientific researcher with the Civic Republic. We see Will and Romano were still there with him, along with the research team, and their escorts was a gentleman with a red beard, Dr. Samuel Abbott, a scientist from the safe zone in Portland, Oregon.

I have to say, he’s looking a lot more alive than the last time we saw him, isn’t he? The last time we saw him, he was a walker, a bite just above his stomach, being used as a test subject in Dr. Lyla Belshaw’s experiments.

I find him being shown alive here so important because it makes me wonder: Are we going to find out how he died?

I mean, it seems fairly obvious he was bitten by a walker in a place you can’t amputate, but will we find out under what circumstances he died?

Last season, I posited the possibility that Dr. Abbott was forcibly volunteered as a test subject. The location of his bite was in a place where we don’t usually see people getting bitten. I’m hoping that by seeing him alive now and with Lyla’s experiments taking on a more significant role in the story, we will finally see whether or not his inclusion in the experiment was the result of a terrible accident or terrible intent.
