Is Maggie Grace leaving Fear the Walking Dead?
By Renee Hansen
Fear the Walking Dead has the fandom abuzz by demoting Maggie Grace, who plays Althea, from “starring” to “also starring.” Fans are worried something terrible will happen to Al and that she is leaving the show permanently. Is Maggie Grace leaving the series?
Ahead of the outbreak, Al became a journalist who interviewed people to document their stories. She decided to keep on doing the interviews after the outbreak in honor of her brother Jesse, who died while she was out chasing a story. She had always felt guilty that she wasn’t there for him when he died.
When we first meet Al in season four, she drives up in a SWAT vehicle and offers to trade ramen and cigarettes for Morgan and John Dorie. After she rescues them, she tells them they owe her. She wants to interview both of them for her collection of post-outbreak stories.

The last episode that viewers have seen Al have any screen time was in the season six episode The Holding.” This is when Al, Alicia, Luciana and Wes arrive at Teddy Maddox’s underground community known as the Holding. Al and Wes discover maps with coordinates for Tank Town and other communities. They realize Teddy’s group has plans to harm these communities as well as Isabelle’s group. Everyone but Alicia is able to escape the Holding, and when they arrive back at Morgan’s dam community, Al tells Dwight she must find a way to warn Isabelle.
After that episode, we only hear her voice until the season seven episode “Breathe With Me,” where we see her safe at Fort San Vicente with Wes, Daniel, Jacob, Luciana, Charlie and Sarah.
Fans noticed the change in her status on the credits in this episode, where she is now listed as “also starring” instead of “starring. What does this mean?
Below is spoiler info from the upcoming episode “Reclamation.”
Andrew Chambliss stated this would be Maggie Grace’s last episode of season seven. The series has yet to be officially renewed for season eight, but with the announcement that filming is moving from Austin, Tx to Savannah, Georgia, this most likely means an eighth season will follow.
Is Grace just taking some downtime to spend with her family, or does this mean this is the last we will see of Al? There has been no other official word except what Chambliss said about her last season seven episode.
Only time will tell if we will see Al again.
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, November 21, with the episode titled “Reclamation.” This episode is currently available to stream on AMC+.
