Sonequa Martin-Green played Sasha on The Walking Dead from season three until her death in season seven. She was the sister of Tyreese (Chad Coleman), and both of these characters meant a lot to many fans. Since leaving the series, Martin-Green has accomplished some significant milestones, many of which she discussed on her appearance on The View.

Martin-Green’s character Michael Burnham has recently become a captain on the Star Trek Discovery series. This promotion makes her the first black female captain ever to helm a ship in the Star Trek franchise. This is a  major step for the franchise and black females.

During her recent guest appearance on The View, Martin-Green shares that she recently lost both parents, and her husband, Kenric Green (Scott on The Walking Dead), lost his brother. So, compounded by the grief and emotions that the pandemic has put everyone in, this family has had the added burden of losing multiple family members and the suffering that goes with it.

She also shared about raising their children and the conversations they will be having with their six-year-old son. Conversations about race and culture that are extremely difficult to have but necessary in the climate we all live in.

Martin-Green was very happy to talk about her early days pursuing her career. She moved from Alabama to NYC and suffered some severe culture shock. She says she loves sharing stories from her early days as they are pretty funny, and she shares one in particular that will make you smile.
