Fear The Walking Dead, The Portrait: Things To Note
By Liam O'Leary
Fear the Walking Dead, Morgan
7) This episode gets its name from the portrait Strand decides to have painted of himself. And after nearly being poisoned by Morgan (Which causes him to question his ability to read people), and the portrait partially destroyed by his walker moat, does he come to see it as capturing how he wants himself to be seen by his subjects.
8) This episode’s title sequence, uncharacteristically, features no silhouettes of characters. We see Strand’s tower, with the highway overpasses behind it and several walkers on each side. This is in front of a blue background, with the edges of the title card once again burning. The theme returns this week after not appearing in the previous week’s title sequence.
9) As Morgan examines Strand’s wall of Polaroids, Strand assures him that “None of them are ours.” Presumably, this means that either none of the Cacklebury kids, convoy pickups, or former Pioneer Rangers were killed in the blast or that Strand’s men simply haven’t found them yet.
10) During his attack, Arno tells Strand that the dud warhead he found killed “even the people who put pieces of it in the dead.” Did he have his own guys contaminate the walkers? Or did he conscript other people to do it? If so, that’s a thoroughly scummy thing to do.
11) The Stalkers’ use of a catapult marks the first time such a weapon has been used in Fear The Walking Dead. We did see them utilized by the Whisperers in the battle for Hilltop in the season ten episode of The Walking Dead, “Morning Star.”
12) Wendell’s appearance in this episode marks his first appearance in more than a whole season, as he was last seen in the sixth episode of season six, “Bury Her Next To Jasper’s Leg.”
