The Walking Dead World Beyond: Lt. Frank Newton

I don’t like throwing this word around, but, honestly, I think it’s the best way to describe Newton: He would make a good fascist.

I say that because, more so than his immediate superiors, he seems quite content to go along with the evils committed by the CRM, in, quite frankly, their lust for power, simply because they are telling him to do so. Because the authorities above him tell him to take part in a massacre, Newton is happy to do it.

Compare that to Sergeant Barca, who, after thinking about what the CRM had done to Campus Colony, found himself not only questioning the CRM, but questioning their very commitment ideals they claimed to be serving. His reward was death, but he didn’t just smile and do what he was told. He was enough of an individual to question authority.

On top of his love of obeying authority, Newton seemed to hold disdain for those who are not part of it. Like being in the CRM makes him better than those who aren’t. He enjoyed a certain amount of psychological bullying of such people. Look no further than his confrontations with Felix.

Even when Felix was pretending to be going along with the CRM, Newton always seemed to be looking down on him. During their final fight, he attempted to use his knowledge of Felix’s psychological profile (Including a low blow about his parents) to provoke him.

The best way I can describe Lieutenant Newton is that he thoroughly enjoys using authority to lord over others. As such, he is blindly loyal to that authority, regardless of the evils, it asks him to commit in its name. Like I said before: He’d make a good fascist.
