The Walking Dead’s SFX guru, directer and EP, Greg Nicotero, attended the Days of the Dead Con in Chicago in November. During an interview with Forbes, he talked about The Walking Dead, Creepshow and other topics.

One thing that Nicotero discusses is the passion and loyalty of The Walking Dead fans. He shared his delight at being able to attend an event once again. Connecting with the fans is essential as they are who drive the content. He shared that the fans really pay attention to the details of The Walking Dead, and it amazes him how devoted they are, which is how the series has lasted this long.

This is evident in not only the flagship series but also in the spinoffs, Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead World Beyond.

Greg Nicotero Days of the Dead panel

The Dolls of Horror hosted Nicotero’s panel at Days of the Dead con. Nicotero fielded questions from the audience. He shared about the first con he attended in 1979, a Star Trek con, and he’s loved them ever since.

A question was asked about his company KNB EFX Group and he shared some great updates on the work they are doing. KNB specializes in prosthetic makeup, animatronics, and other practical effects. The Walking Dead has kept them busy for the past 12 years. They have been working on other projects, including Lovecraft Country, Dexter and Mayor of Easttown, among many others.

Listen to the whole panel below as he discusses some great stuff.

Nicotero wears many hats within The Walking Dead fandom. He serves as the SFX creator, actor and director; he has directed over 30 episodes of the series.

Many times he has played a walker during episodes. In “The Suicide King” from season three, he was the walker that Andrea (Laurie Holden) killed. Most recently, he played a walker in the season 11 episode “Hunted,” where he killed Agatha (Laurie Fortier), one of the Wardens.
