Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang to produce new series for AMC

AMC has won the rights to adapt Rebecca Roanhorse’s novel Black Sun into a series. Roanhorse will executive produce with Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang.
THR has reported that AMC won the rights to the book through competitive bidding, which has been nominated for best novel at the 2021 Hugo Awards. This is the first of Roanhorse’s books to be adapted for TV.
Black Sun is a fantasy novel, the first of the Between Earth and Sky series with its sequel, Fevered Star, scheduled for release in 2022. Black Sun is set in the holy city of Tova and inspired by Pre-Columbian American civilization intermingled with celestial, political and forbidden magic.
The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang
What does Kang’s involvement with a new project mean for her future in The Walking Dead universe?
Kang has been involved with TWD since she started as a writer in season two. She has written or co-written many great episodes, including “I Ain’t a Judas,” “Four Walls and a Roof,” “Coda,” and “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life.”
In season 9, Kang took over as showrunner and expected to give the series a fresh take after many thought it had become stale. Viewers are divided on whether or not they feel she has done the job justice, but overall, season 9 and beyond have been better than some of the earlier seasons.
Kang will be the showrunner for the Daryl and Carol spin-off series that is set to begin filming after the final season finishes filming. There has been no announcement about the direction of this series. Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon, has teased that it won’t look like the flagship series.
Even with her new project on Black Sun, we will still see Kang involved in TWDU, at least with the Daryl and Carol spin-off. There are additional spin-offs scheduled as well as the movies, so perhaps she will also work on some of those projects.
