Fear the Walking Dead survival rule of the week: All need guidance
By Liam O'Leary
Be Careful That The Guidance You Receive Doesn’t Lead You Astray
If we stop for a moment and think about most of the plot of this season of Fear The Walking Dead’s midseason finale, it seems, quite frankly, absurd.
Why? Because Alicia is following a walker, hoping that it can lead her to the proverbial “promised land” of PADRE. Let me say that again: A person was looking for a walker to guide them.
While Senator Vasquez’s walker was capable of leading Alicia and Will out of the Franklin Hotel’s underground bunker, it had no such capabilities when it came to the sanctuary of PADRE.
Granted, this was borne out of Alicia’s desperation after being bitten, but the fact remains that the expectation is still absurd. It was no surprise that rather than lead her and Morgan to PADRE, Senator Vasquez instead brought them right to the doorstep of Strand’s tower. We could expect nothing less.
The point of all this is to illustrate that, while it’s essential to have guidance in a zombie apocalypse if that guidance is faulty, it’s more likely to lead to disaster than anything else. Whether the guidance you’re getting is from a walker or a person who’s intentionally leading you astray, you need to be sure that your source of guidance is trustworthy, or else, it might wind up being a source of misguidance.
And that’s our Walking Dead Survival Rule Of The Week! We all need a little guidance sometimes, and, in a zombie apocalypse, many of us may need guidance a lot of the time. Whether that guidance is something as simple as a map telling you where to go or as deep as hand-written instructions left behind by a trusted friend, every little bit helps us navigate our way through the darkness, so long as that guidance is trustworthy, of course. If you want some reliable guidance, why not pick up a copy of my book, The Rules: A Guide To Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse! You can also get it at Amazon here, on iTunes here!
