Fear the Walking Dead: You must trust your guide

If you need a guide to take you somewhere, it means you don’t know the area or how to get there. This also means that that lack of knowledge can be used against you since you wouldn’t know the proper way to get to where you’re going, and your guide could easily walk you directly into a trap!

This problem comes down to one thing: Trust. I’ve said it before, and I’ll repeat it: If you don’t have trust in a zombie apocalypse, you don’t have anything.

But, how do you know you can trust someone guiding you through a place you’ve never been before?

In an ideal situation, your guide would be someone who’s been traveling with you and your group for a long time. Someone who you have probably saved the life of at some point, and a person who’s equally likely to have done the same for you.

Things in a zombie apocalypse are hardly ideal, and, likely, such a guide may not be someone you’re familiar with. If this is the case, you might be better served to plan and set down a few ground rules before following them. Things like letting them know you’re not going anywhere that could be ideal for ambushes (Alleys, tunnels, dead ends, etc.). And, insist that they point out the route to you on a map first, so you can scout ahead and make sure they don’t have someone lying in wait for you.

It’s also essential to gauge the person offering you this assistance. Did they offer it first, or did you ask them to take you in a specific direction? How did you meet them? Did you approach them, or did they approach you? Do they seem particularly interested in something you have or someone in your group? Does something feel off about them? If so, maybe you shouldn’t be so willing to follow their lead. Maybe, you should go in a completely different direction and avoid where they were pointing you to altogether.
