Lauren Ridloff name on InStyle’s Badass 50 list for 2022
By Renee Hansen
Lauren Ridloff portrays Connie on The Walking Dead and the fandom knows she is a badass. Now the rest of the world knows this also. Twice a year InStyle magazine creates a list of 50 women who are making the world a better place and Ridloff has been named on the February 2022 list.
Ridloff joined The Walking Dead midseason nine when her character Connie and her group were rescued by Judith Grimes. Connie’s group consisted of Magna, Yumiko, Luke, Kelly and Bernie, who was killed by a walker before Judith arrived. When they are first introduced to the residents of Alexandria, Michonne is reluctant to allow them to live there. Eventually, the group is situated at Hilltop and although things aren’t always smooth, they have proved to be trustworthy and great additions to the communities.
Connie was missing for quite some time and most presumed her dead after the cave-in. Although viewers knew she survived when she was discovered by Virgil in the final episode of season 10b her friends and family wouldn’t find out until season 11’s episode “On the Inside.” This episode was straight out of a horror film. Ridloff’s performance in this episode was outstanding.
Lauren Ridloff makes history
During Connie’s absence from The Walking Dead, Ridloff was busy filming her latest movie Eternals where she makes history in the MCU by being the first deaf superhero. In the movie, Ridloff portrays Makkari, who in the comics was a male character, who possesses superhuman strength and speed.
Below, Ridloff shared her excitement about the InStyle article and reminded fans that Eternals is now streaming on Disney+.
Ridloff is a fascinating person. The more you read about her, the more you see what a truly remarkable individual she is. She is known as a former Miss Deaf America (2000 – 2002), as Lauren Teruel. She went to college to become a writer, never thinking she would become an actor.
She was nominated for a Tony for her 2018 Broadway performance as Sarah Norman in Children of a Lesser God. You can read the amazing story regarding how she landed that role on Playbill.com.
In 2019, TV Guide named her the Best Newcomer of the TV Season for her portrayal of Connie.
Congrats to Lauren Ridloff for being named one of InStyle’s Badasses and for all she is doing in the world of entertainment to shed light on ASL and the Deaf community. She is truly an inspiration.
