I know it is coming, and I continue to ignore the fact that we will see the finale episode of The Walking Dead in 2022. But, when cinematographer Duane Charles Manwiller posts an amazing BTS photo of Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and responds to a fan question with, “We only have THREE left to film and the season will be complete,” my heart just sank.

The Walking Dead has already aired eight of the 24 episodes of the final season, but there is still so much story to tell. Fans aren’t ready to face the end of a series that opened up a whole apocalyptic world, made us love the characters we’ve met along the way and created a fandom that resulted in TWD Family.

But, sometime in the latter part of this year, that sad reality is, we will view the final episode of The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead final season

Whether you began this series at the premiere on October 31, 2010, or came in anytime after that point and continued with it, this series means something to you. Perhaps you enjoy some great walker scenes or have a favorite character that you have threatened to riot if they get killed, or you were drawn in by the stories of the characters who are trying to survive in a world we can only imagine. Whatever your reason, the fans have invested time, money, and emotions into a series that has played an important role in their lives.

Many characters have come and gone throughout the series, but fans continue to support those actors who played the beloved characters. Many fans have become friends with the actors from this series or have met their favorite actors at more cons than they can count.

Fans flock to Senoia, Georgia, the hub of filming for the series, to catch a glimpse of the cast, walk through the streets of Woodbury, take a walk along the walls of Alexandria and meet up with other fans.

The end of this series fills fans with bittersweet emotions, and the hope is that the creators can continue to bring fantastic content in The Walking Dead universe long after the flagship’s final episode airs.
