Fear the Walking Dead: The enemy of your enemy is your enemy

When Alicia and Strand were thinking about this whole “war” thing, did either of them account for the one person who absolutely dislikes both of them, Arno?

No, they did not.

What do you think Arno would do if he and the Stalkers stumbled upon Alicia and Strand going to war with one another? Would he leave them alone? Or, would he use his trebuchet to launch bombs, or walkers, or radioactive walkers at both armies? If you guessed the second option, you’d be 100% correct!

Seriously, why did neither of them consider the possibility that he might show up and do this? If he doesn’t, I’ll be stunned.

Last week, I said those who aren’t your enemies should be your friends, but that doesn’t always work out. While both Alicia and Arno hate Strand, it will not make them friends. Should he find her distracted while fighting their mutual enemy, I’d bet good money that he would make a point to rain on both their parades. While he hates Strand, he has no apparent love for Alicia, either.

This is how people work in the real world. Just because two people dislike the same person doesn’t, by any means, make them into friends. If you’ve met other people in the apocalypse who you aren’t actually friends with, there’s a good chance that, should they see you in the midst of a battle with another group, they may decide you’re just as much of a threat as your enemy. Or, they may decide now’s as good a time as any to try to get your stuff and attack you in the hopes of collecting whatever you leave behind.

Just because someone is the enemy of your enemy doesn’t mean they aren’t your enemy, too.

And that’s our Walking Dead Survival Rule Of The Week! Conflict between people is something of an inevitability, even in a zombie apocalypse. But, if you’re going to have one in the apocalypse, you need to consider a couple of things beforehand unless you want to ensure yourself a losing effort in such a conflict. If you want to know what you need to worry about before going to war in the apocalypse, why not pick up a copy of my book, The Rules: A Guide To Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse!
