If You Tell People You’re Around, They’ll Find You, Eventually.

Of course, people will find you if you tell them you’re around, but it’s one of those things that’s so obvious people ignore it.

Think about this: If you make a point of trying to communicate with other people or do things that make a lot of noise, or smoke, sooner or later, it will alert people to your presence. Perhaps giving away your exact location to people you don’t want to find out.

When we’re trying to communicate over the radio, or making fires, building something, or talking outside, we don’t think about how far out these things might be seen or heard. We tend not to think about how quiet the world would become during a zombie apocalypse. There are no more cars, planes, power plants, crowds, or anything that creates our modern world’s ambient background noise. Absent that, the noises the rest of us make are cannon fire that echoes for miles around.

Any person, be they living or dead, will immediately be drawn to the sound source. This is all well and good if the people you draw are friendly, but as I’ve been trying to get across this whole time, not everyone out there will be.

You need to realize that the sights and sounds you create in the apocalypse will not go unnoticed. Every open fire, scream, or sound can potentially give away your presence to the people in the world who haven’t noticed you yet. You need to be sure that every disruption you bring into the quiet world of the apocalypse is one you intend to create and one you’re ready to face the consequences.

And that’s our Walking Dead Survival Rule Of The Week! The world of the zombie apocalypse is smaller than you might realize, and just past where you can’t see, there may be a host of people who may seek to do you harm. If you ignore the possibility that they might be there or don’t take the necessary precautions until you know for sure, you might find out that you led them right to you. If you want to be ready in case you do lead hostiles or zombies right to you, why not pick up a copy of my book, The Rules: A Guide To Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse!
