The Walking Dead series will return to AMC with the first episode of season 11B on February 20 and AMC+ subscribers can view the premiere episode on February 13. One huge storyline left on a cliffhanger is the Reaper battle with Maggie and her group.

The Reaper’s have been a primary antagonist for season 11, and they are quite brutal. We’ve seen them torture and kill without prejudice. This group is quite dangerous as they are highly skilled and were trained by the US military. Top that with a religious zealot for a leader, and you’ve got the makings of something dangerous.

Pope was the leader of the group until Leah betrayed him. She killed him without a second thought and promptly blamed Daryl. If you remember from season 10C Leah and Daryl were romantically involved, and Daryl thought he would never see her again. He had quite the shock learning she was a member of the group who killed Maggie’s previous group. She also took part in torturing Daryl for information.

Episode 1108, “For Blood,” ended with Leah ordering the dangerous-looking hwacha to fire upon the horde of walkers, which included Maggie, Negan, Elijah, Daryl and Father Gabriel.

The Walking Dead – Father Gabriel and the holy man

During an episode of Talking Dead, a teaser clip was aired that showed a meeting with Father Gabriel and the Reapers holy man named Mancea.

Previously Gabriel viewed him from a tree near the cemetery and was in awe of him talking to and what appeared to be hearing from God. He sees Mancea have this conversation with the almighty.

"“Tell me, Father. You have guided me through the darkest of times. I treasure our conversation and the guidance you have given me. Is there anything I should know?… Thank you, Father.”"

Gabriel feels he is losing his religion as he no longer hears God’s voice. This has taken him down a dark path far from his previous life as a priest.

In the sneak peek below, it doesn’t appear that either one of the men is prepared to back down. And Mancea tells Gabriel God told him he was near him at the cemetery, but He also told him he was safe.

Will we see something major occur between these characters? Father Gabriel has already surpassed his comic counterpart’s death.
