AMC aired the tenth episode of season five of The Walking Dead titled “Them” on Feb. 15, 2015. Since this episode, things have drastically changed with the series. This episode introduces the survivors to Aaron (Ross Marquand) of Alexandria. This episode is fantastic, with many tender moments and a memorable scene with the storm raging outside the barn.

This episode opens with the whole group still fresh in grief over the losses of Beth (Emily Kinney) and Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman). These deaths have hit the group hard but most especially Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Daryl (Norman Reedus).

They are on the road and in desperate need of food and water. Everyone is on edge and deals with grief in different ways. Abraham is withdrawn and leaning on a bottle of booze while Michonne and Glenn struggle to hold to hope. Gabriel struggles with his faith. They resort to eating a pack of wild dogs as they have gone almost two days without food.

The video below is a cool BTS peek showing the making of the scene with the walkers on the bridge and some BTS footage of the storm.

The Walking Dead season 5

A much-needed rain shower comes along to the delight of all, but the joy is short-lived as they realize it is a full-fledged storm. Daryl tells them of a barn they can hole up in, and it appears this will keep them safe from the elements. But, a horde comes along, requiring all hands on deck to keep them from entering the barn while a wild storm rages outside.

The next morning it is revealed that the storm was actually a tornado that ripped alongside the barn. Walkers are hanging from trees; many were destroyed during the storm.

There are many intimate moments in this episode, most of which tug at your heartstrings as each character tries to process the bad luck that has struck them.

At the end of the episode, Maggie takes Sasha outside to view the sunrise. Sasha confides she isn’t sure if she can go on, but Maggie assures her that they all will. Then Aaron approaches them with what he says is “good news.”
