The Walking Dead, No Other Way: Things To Note
By Liam O'Leary
The Walking Dead Alden
12) As Maggie rampages on the fleeing Reapers, we hear the same background music that played when Rick, Daryl, Glenn, and T-Dog discovered Merle’s severed hand way back in the third ever episode of The Walking Dead, “Tell It To The Frogs”.
13) Alden is the twenty-first named character to die this season, and the first member of the communities (Not counting the Wardens) to die since Roy in this season’s second episode, “Acheron: Part II”.
14) As Maggie reenters the church where she left Alden, she’s attacked by a walker who appears to be a Reaper. With Alden’s throat having been slit, it stands to reason the Reaper killed him. However, the fact he is dead implies that he only killed Alden after suffering a grievous wound himself in some kind of struggle. We don’t have anything definitively proving this, but it’s the most likely explanation for him being in the church as a walker, and not roaming around in the surrounding woods.
15) With Alden’s death, the only Saviors who we know to be alive at present are Negan and Gracie.
16) This episode likely gets its name from Maggie killing the Reapers because she believes there’s “No Other Way” to protect Alexandria from them. Or, from the flash-forward we see at the end of the episode, where she tells the Commonwealth soldiers at Hilltop’s gates, “It doesn’t have to be this way” (Implying whatever they’re doing is under threat of force) before Daryl replies “Yeah, it does.”
