Daryl Dixon has added a new title to his list of skills on The Walking Dead. In the most recent episode of the series, “New Haunt,” viewers see many of the Alexandrians have relocated to the Commonwealth and assigned new jobs. Daryl is in the military, but he also serves as the parental unit for Judith and RJ.
This pulls at the heartstrings of fans as this trio is just what they need to see. Daryl lost his mom long ago, and Judith and RJ’s parents are gone. It only makes sense that Daryl, brother to their father Rick, would serve as their guardian until their return.
It took Daryl time, but he eventually realized that his new family was for real, and he could trust them all. Once he figured that out, he would do anything for any one of them, including taking care of Judith and RJ.
The Walking Dead season 11 episode 10
When we first discovered that Judith, who now calls herself Jude, and RJ live with Daryl, he returned to their apartment with dinner. Dog is also living with him in the military housing Rosita has said must be made of paper. It is a bleak situation as you can hear everything going on in the surrounding apartments, and it seems to be a small cramped space for three people and a dog.
It is heartbreaking when Jude asks for an allowance, and Daryl tells her he must get his job situation sorted. Early in the episode, she had no money to go shopping with her new friend Mei. This is a foreign concept for Jude as she has never known what money is. Any luxuries that Jude has known have been found or possibly traded for.
Later in the episode, Daryl allows Sebastian, the pompous jerk of a son to the governor, to take the glory for capturing a rebel, Tyler Davis. Mercer, the military leader, told Daryl the Commonwealth is the best place he has found to live, and you occasionally have to set people up for a win. He took this advice to heart, knowing it would improve things for him and the kids.
This proved to be accurate as later we saw Daryl in full Commonwealth trooper gear and Jude with a new dress. He then shows her a surprise he got for her, a record player for her Motörhead album.

There are many theories about what Daryl is planning. We’ve seen the six-month time jump where he is at the gates of Hilltop, with Maggie inside. He tells her to open the gates, and she says things don’t have to be this way; his reply is, yea, they do.
Will he become “one of them” to ensure that Jude and RJ are safe and secure? Or, are there other things going on that will come to light eventually? Daryl is generally a lone wolf who does his own thing but will his views change now that he has others in his direct care?
It is tough to say at this point. But, most likely, Daryl has a much bigger plan that involved everyone from Alexandria who settled at the Commonwealth.
