The Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week: Harsh Realities
By Liam O'Leary
The Walking Dead – Not everyone will survive
Lots of people think that they’re invincible. Honestly, it’s an intelligent defense mechanism because if we sat there and constantly thought about the myriad ways we could die everyday, we’d all be crippled with fear that we wouldn’t survive the day.
However, in a zombie apocalypse, this can be a little bit detrimental. We may not consider just how dangerous a situation we’re walking into could be. Then discover that we’ve bitten off more than we could chew, which the dead will gladly demonstrate by biting off parts of us that they can chew.
We need to learn to gauge our limitations in the apocalypse. If we know what we can and can’t do, we can avoid getting ourselves into situations that we can’t bring ourselves out of and avoid getting people we care about eaten in the process.
Additionally, having an understanding of how dangerous the apocalypse is, and how fleeting our life could be, will give us a better appreciation of what we have, hopefully making us enjoy the time we have more.
Our survival is not guaranteed in a zombie apocalypse — The dead will outnumber us a hundred thousand to one — and it only takes one lousy screw-up to make us join the dead. Believing we’re invincible makes us reckless and, frankly, stupid. Only when we know what we can’t do can we effectively carry out what we can do to survive.
And that’s our Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week! We all have our own ideas of what we’ll do if we were to find ourselves in a zombie apocalypse, but, those ideas are probably not going to match up with the harsh reality. If you want to be ready for that reality, or as ready as you can be, why not pick up a copy of my book, The Rules: A Guide To Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse!
