The Walking Dead has officially hit the halfway mark of the final season. The latest episode, “The Lucky Ones,” was number 12 of the 24 episodes for the last season of the series. As this season moves on, many of our survivors have relocated to the Commonwealth and are situated in jobs in that community.

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Rosita (Christian Serratos) have been assigned to the military. We’ve seen them in their boot camp, and within 30 days, both characters have completed their training and are fully engaged in these new positions.

With both of their parents gone, Daryl has taken up care of Judith and RJ. The two kids live with Uncle Daryl and seem to enjoy life at the Commonwealth. Daryl seems to be trying hard to fit into this new lifestyle that will ensure the kids have a better life than they have had.

Does Daryl Dixon trust the Commonwealth?

Daryl is one of the many characters whose personality has significantly altered since we first met him. The Daryl of season one wouldn’t have been too keen about taking care of two kids. He takes this responsibility seriously and wants what is best for them.

As far as trusting the Commonwealth, he told Maggie that he never said he did trust them. He seems to be very open to the information that Mercer (Michael James Shaw) continues to share with him. Mercer has taken him under his wing, sensing that Daryl has always done things his own way. But, often, he seems to be warning him as well.

In the six-month flash-forward, we see Daryl return to Hilltop, but this time he is in full Commonwealth trooper gear, telling Maggie to let them enter the gate. Can we expect that Daryl has once again gone undercover, or has he accepted his lot in life at the Commonwealth?

I don’t think Daryl is ready to trust the Commonwealth, but he is willing to give things a go for the sake of RJ and Judith. Only time will tell what happens next.
