The Walking Dead episode “The Lucky Ones” saw the Commonwealth’s governor Pamela Milton (Laila Robins) and her Deputy, Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton), embark on visits to Alexandria, Oceanside and Hilltop.

Aaron (Ross Marquand) was nervous as he showed Milton the progress made with resources from the Commonwealth. She talked with Daryl (Norman Reedus) about Deanna Monroe, the original leader of Alexandria. It was a shock that she knew Deanna as they were both heavily involved in politics even before the outbreak.

We got our first glimpse of Oceanside and its residents since season 10. Rachel (Avianna Mynhier) has assumed leadership of his community and is keeping her allegiance to Maggie (Lauren Cohan) as leader of Hilltop.

While on their way to Hilltop, they encounter Maggie Rhee as she takes down several walkers. It’s obvious who this week’s MVP is.

THE MVP FOR THE LUCKY ONES IS – MAGGIE

The Walking Dead – Maggie

Milton’s first introduction to Maggie had to impress the woman who has lived behind walls for the majority, if not all, of the apocalypse. Maggie, Dianne (Kerry Cahill), Lydia (Cassidy McClincy) and Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari) were fighting off a group of walkers when they were approached by Milton’s caravan, complete with military escorts.

Maggie asks Daryl and Aaron why they trust “these people,” Daryl responds, stating that no one said they do. He went on to say that it is good to see Alexandria getting cleaned up.

Maggie talks one-on-one with Pamela; she watches as they set up camp outside Hilltop and share the supplies they have brought with her community. She is always observant, and she knows these things mean a lot to the Hilltop residents who have little to nothing at the current time.

Lance talks a big talk when explaining all of the future plans that Maggie, Hershel and her people could be a part of. You could see these ideas are things she has thought of as she has built up other communities.

When a group of walkers breach hilltops alert system of cans on a rope, Maggie, Dianne, Lydia and Elijah once again do a fantastic job of taking them out, aided by Mercer. Then he calls his troopers to fire, and the rest of the walkers are taken out in seconds by their guns.

Maggie seems to have decided to accept the Commonwealth’s assistance until she observes Mercer’s dominion over the troops and, most especially, Daryl, who is generally rebellious and a lone wolf. She also sees Pamela order some troopers, and during all this, she changes her mind and declines assistance.

When Pamela asks why, Maggie uses a phase Pamela used during their one on one conversation, everything costs something.

We know from the six-month flash-forward we saw in a previous episode that this decision will come back to bite Maggie in the rear. But, she is wise to tread lightly where the Commonwealth is concerned. Mercer keeps giving Daryl little hints alluding to the fact that not everything is as it seems in the community. It will be very interesting to see the outcoming of Maggie’s decision.
