The Walking Dead final season has reached the halfway point with last week’s episode. Filming for the final episode of the series is underway, and it is a heartbreaking thought, but we all knew it was coming.

The previous episode, “The Lucky Ones,” saw Governor Pamela Milton visit the communities of Alexandria, Oceanside and Hilltop. She was joined by Lance Hornsby, Mercer, Daryl, and a group of Commonwealth troopers. She didn’t seem that impressed with everything she saw. She was likely making comparisons of those communities and the Commonwealth, whose walls most likely are never breached.  Milton feels supporting these communities with Commonwealth resources serves to benefit them and depletes resources that could be used for their residents.

We learned that Rachel has now taken leadership of Oceanside, which leads to the question, where is Cyndie? Oceanside has decided to remain true to their agreement with Hilltop and will only accept the Commonwealth’s deal if Maggie does for Hilltop.

Maggie talks with Milton and Hornsby and ultimately decides to decline their offer of assistance for Hilltop and its residents. She was on the verge of accepting until she witnessed Mercer and his troops mowing down a group of walkers, most likely thinking they could easily do the same to her and her group. She also saw Daryl fall in line as a soldier, something that she most likely didn’t think she would ever see as he is always the lone wolf.

We also saw Eugene process the information about Stephanie and the fact that neither of the women was Stephanie, but two women named Shira and Max. His heart is broken, and he gets to talk to Rosita about what happened, but instead of confiding in her completely, he tells her Stephanie broke up with him. This is due to the document he signed and that he doesn’t want to jeopardize Rosita’s job as a Commonwealth trooper.
