The Walking Dead

Things that seem easy, might not be.

When you think about it, the action in this week’s episode of The Walking Dead started with something that seemed relatively simple: Lydia wanted to find out who sent Jesse to get help, and help them. Whatever she, Elijah, and Maggie were expecting, I doubt it was to, effectively, go to war with the Commonwealth over a bunch of stolen guns, but, that’s what they ended up doing.

The thing is: In a zombie apocalypse, rarely will things be simple, and I imagine they’ll almost never be easy. The reason for this is because there will so often be things going on around you or the places you want to go/things you want to get, that you may not realize are on their way to you, or are there waiting for you.

It would be all to easy that, as you go to a place to retrieve some supplies, part of the building collapses, or a herd of zombies appear that you didn’t think were there, or another group shows up to claim the same supplies you’re after, or you accidentally led a herd of zombies to you on the way to the supplies. You wouldn’t know these things were going to happen beforehand, but now, you’re left having to deal with them.

What you need to do is, whenever you’re going on any kind of expedition (Supply run, scouting mission, diplomatic mission, etc.), try to prepare for the possibility that things will awry on you. Bring extra supplies, extra food, extra weapons, maybe even an extra person or two, so that, should things not be as simple as you expected, you have the capacity to deal with this change in plans.

And that’s our Walking Dead, Survival Rule Of The Week! Sometimes, in a zombie apocalypse, you’ll see the threat coming. Things like herds of zombies, or an army of hostiles gathering at your front door can be hard to miss. But, at other times, the threats won’t be so obvious, hiding in plain sight, or just outside of where you can see, and you need to be ready so that neither catches you off guard. If you don’t want to be caught off guard, why not pick up a copy of my book, The Rules: A Guide To Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse!  You can also get it at Amazon here, on iTunes here!
