The Walking Dead honors Deanna Monroe in season 11
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead episode “The Lucky Ones” featured a touching memorial to Deanna Monroe (Tovah Feldshuh). Governor Pamela Milton (Laila Robins) visited Alexandria, Oceanside and Hilltop to check out the communities that are her Dep. Governor Lance Hornsby’s (Josh Hamilton) pet projects. Milton made it very clear she feels these communities are a waste of the Commonwealth’s resources.
During this episode, Milton was sitting at a home in Alexandria holding a photo of Reg (Steven Coulter) and Deanna Monroe. She commented how she crossed paths with Deanna during philanthropic circles back in the day. The Milton’s and Monroe’s were families steeped in politics, although, at the time, Milton wasn’t really interested in politics herself. She said that Deanna was born to run things.
The Walking Dead socials posted a video of Daryl (Norman Reedus) during this episode as he talked of Deanna and the admiration and respect he had for her.
The Walking Dead’s Deanna Monroe
The Monroe family consisted of Reg and Deanna and their sons Spencer (Austin Nichols) and Aiden (Daniel Bonjour). The family was traveling back to Ohio from Washington DC at the beginning of the outbreak. They were intercepted by the military, who diverted them to the planned community of Alexandria.
They welcomed others to the community to build it up and take care of one another. Reg used his skills in architecture to use supplies from an abandoned construction site to construct the walls.
Deanna prided herself on being able to read people and then assign them jobs at Alexandria. She did a fantastic job with our survivors, placing them in positions that used their skills. She stood up for Rick and his group, making it known that they were all community residents and needed to be treated as such.
For someone who had lived behind walls since the beginning, she didn’t hesitate to pick up a gun and defend what was theirs. She stood with Rick and did everything in her power to make Alexandria a place worth fighting for.
Governor Milton stated that Daryl admired her, and his response was “Very much so.” He told her they had never met anyone like Deanna, who just took them into a community she built.
It was a wonderful way to honor Deanna now that Alexandria is being built back to its original glory.
