In the previous episode of The Walking Dead, “Warlords,” viewers were briefly introduced to a new character named Annie (Medina Senghore). She is a resident of the recently introduced community and was first seen with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a character who recently exiled himself from Maggie and her group.
Annie was with Negan when he sent Jesse to Hilltop to get help from Maggie. She is well skilled with a knife as she had no trouble taking out the Commonwealth trooper holding Gabriel back at Riverbend.
Annie is a confident, well-spoken woman who appears to have strong leadership skills. It is a mystery why Ian was the leader of Riverbend and not her. She gave an impassioned speech about family and sticking together in last week’s episode to the remaining survivors. It encouraged them even though they were terrified and Carlson from the Commonwealth had killed the best of their fighters.
The Walking Dead Annie
In this week’s episode, she wasn’t about to back down even with Aaron’s gun pointed at her and Elijah’s wicked-looking weapon at her neck. She displays her intelligence when she lays out the plan to get all of her people out of the apartment complex. Instead of going wild and trying to kill the CW troopers, she lays out a plan that will be the most successful.
Curiously, she brings Maggie with her until we find out why. Annie and Negan are married and are expecting a baby. She is fully aware of what Negan did to Glenn, and she is of the mind that in the current world, no one has clean hands and that everyone has to try to be better.
Annie sees the man Negan is now, which is the man she loves. Right or wrong, that is where she stands.
She commented that Ian wasn’t their first leader. Was she the leader, then Ian and his men came in and took over? She doesn’t seem like the type to follow a man who keeps the skulls of his enemies on a shelf.
