The Walking Dead series will air the last midseason finale on AMC Sunday, April 10. This milestone has snuck up faster than viewers could have imagined. After this episode, there will be eight episodes left in the final season of the series that will air in the fall of 2022. The last season has made us nostalgic, and today we look back on The Walking Dead’s first San Diego Comic-Con appearance in 2010.

The Walking Dead’s first Comic-Con appearance would take place months before the series premiere in October 2010. The first panel didn’t include any of the cast as many of them weren’t very well known at the time. Instead, the first panel consisted of AMC executive Joel Stillerman and executive producers Greg Nicotero, Gale Anne Hurd and Frank Darabont. They were joined by The Walking Dead comic creator Robert Kirkman. It is ironic to look back and remember that Kirkman described his comics as the zombie story that never ends, but here we are, at the end.

It was a great discussion about what to expect from this series that would be adapted from the comic story. The creators wanted the story to be similar to the comic but didn’t want to be an exact reproduction.

The Walking Dead Comic Con

The video below shows part 2 of the panel where actors Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, and Emma Bell join the panel. They introduce themselves and what character they would play. (at the 6:30 mark) (and is continued in part 3)

One interesting thing in watching this video is that none of these actors are on series any longer. Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes is still alive and will hopefully be seen again in movies or a spinoff. The other characters have all been killed off.

The first trailer for this series was also released at Comic-Con, and even the actors hadn’t seen it until this premiere. You can watch it below. WOW! It will bring back fond memories of the first episode.
