Fear the Walking Dead will return to AMC on April 17 at 9 p.m. ET. This episode will be the premiere of season 7B and pick up after Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) declares war on Victor Strand (Colman Domingo). One year ago, during the midseason premiere of season six, Fear TWD fans lost the beloved character John Dorie who Garret Dillahunt portrayed.

Before the outbreak, John Dorie was a police officer who, after shooting a criminal who then died, was consumed with guilt and isolated himself in a cabin. Eventually, he would meet a woman named “Laura” and fall in love. She would abandon him but later be reunited with her.

In the season 4 episode “What’s Your Story, Dorie was first introduced to the series.” He would encounter Morgan Jones (Lennie James), a character that was being seen for the first time crossing over from the main series, The Walking Dead. It was a comical encounter as Morgan wanted to be alone, and John just wanted to talk to someone after being alone for a very long time.

John Dorie would quickly become a fan-favorite character. He was a jack of all trades with many useful skills, a loyal friend, and an all-around nice guy. Dillahunt did an amazing job bringing life to this character.

On April 22, 2021, the episode “The Door” aired on AMC. This would be the last episode fans would see John Dorie alive. He would be killed by Dakota because she was a brat and then found in the river as a walker by his beloved June. She is the one who had to put him down, and it was a gut-wrenching scene to watch.

Dillahunt has had many memorable roles before and after John Dorie. The latest movie he stars in is the Michael Bay movie Ambulance with Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza González.

This summer, Dillahunt and fellow Walking Dead universe actor Jayson Warner Smith will start in the movie Where the Crawdads Sing. This is a movie adaptation of the same-titled book by Delia Owens and has a theatrical release date of July 15, 2022.

Dillahunt has another exciting project in the works. This one is a new series that he stars and executive produces with his friend Greg Garcia.  The series is called Sprung and centers around a group of prisoners who were let out of prison early due to the COVID pandemic. The prisoners now have to acclimate to life on the outside and if that wasn’t hard enough, add in a global pandemic. It is a humorous series with a lot of heart.

Garret Dillahunt will always be fondly remembered by TWD Family as John Dorie as he gave so much life to this character, and he is greatly missed. It is wonderful to know that he has many new projects, allowing fans to see his talents in these other roles.
