Fear the Walking Dead will return to AMC Sunday, April 17, with the season 7 midseason premiere, “Follow Me.” Viewers are excited to see what is to come now that Alicia has declared war on Strand and the other survivors will begin to choose sides. The back half of this season will also prove exciting with the return of Madison Clark (Kim Dickens).

Madison was presumed dead after the explosion at the Dell Diamond community in season 4. Viewers saw her lure the oil-soaked herd of walkers into the tunnels and use a flare to ignite them. She had said her goodbyes to her children, Nick and Alicia, via radio right before her heroic act.

Fans had petitioned to bring Madison back; they argued that she could have survived and is the heart of the series. Their request has finally been fulfilled as she will return before the end of season 7.

Fear the Walking Dead – Madison Clark

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Showrunner Ian Goldberg shared what can be expected with Madison’s return.

He stated that it appears she is sporting new tattoos, as was revealed at the end of the trailer and that she is in a very different place than when she was last seen. Like all the characters in the series, she has been through some tough stuff.

When asked if her return would be similar to Lauren Cohan’s on The Walking Dead, where it would be something small with a full return in the upcoming episode, he was careful only to reveal how Madison returns would be “a very big, impactful way.”

One thing viewers are incredibly interested to learn is where she has been all this time. Goldberg had this to say about how this will be told, whether it will be shown or seen in flashbacks:

"We’re not taking anything off the table between flashbacks and talking about it in the present. There’s obviously a lot of story to tell there, and we have a lot of ideas for how we’re going to tell it. So maybe a little from column A, a little from column B."

Madison will also be met with the news of her son, Nick’s death upon her return. This news will be a severe blow as she has always protected her children first and foremost. This will be compounded by the news that his killer, Charlie, is still among the group of survivors.

Madison’s return is a highlight of the second half of season 7 which should be full of action as the battle between Strand and Alicia rages.
