The Walking Dead: Marco, one of this week’s deaths, was a Hilltop resident
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead recently aired its last midseason finale of the series, “Acts of God,” and there were a couple of deaths in this episode. One death has been commented about by several outlets as pointless. This was the death of Marco, played by Gustavo Gomez.
Statements have been made that it’s just like The Walking Dead to introduce a new character, give them a few lines, and then kill them off. But, Marco has been on the series since the season nine episode “The New Beginning.” Granted, he was never a major character, but he did become quite a fan favorite because Gomez is such a personable individual who was very interactive with his fans. If you do a quick IMDB search for the actor, you can see he has been in 13 episodes of the series.
Marco was a resident of Hilltop and was first seen when Rick and the group headed to the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
The Walking Dead – Marco
During his time on the series, Marco helped in several different missions, including the search for Eugene and later for Alden and Luke. He is seen in several season nine episodes attending Jesus’ funeral, at the gates of Hilltop when Alpha and Whisperers arrive to retrieve Lydia, and he attends the fair at the Kingdom.
He is among the group who encounter Ozzy, Alek and DJ while headed back to Hilltop before this trio ends up on Alpha’s pikes. He is there when Siddiq delivers the news.
In season 10, Marco attends the militia training at Oceanside and helps put out the fire from the satellite that crashes in the woods. He helps when the tree crashes into Hilltop, knocking down the wall and goes to Oceanside with Michonne to check on the possible Whisper activity.
Marco fights in the battle against the Whisperers at Hilltop, and he and Oscar prepare the music wagon used to lure the herd from the hospital when the Whisperers swarm it. Marco is the one who drove the music wagon on that mission.
During his time in the series, he never had a major role, but he was a great supporting role that many fans became fond of. And, for Maggie, he was a great loss as she made it her responsibility to protect everyone from the Hilltop community.
Gomez shared some great BTS photos on IG of his last day of filming. He filmed his death scene on his birthday, which he stated made it pretty special.
Gomez is known for his roles in Denton’s Death Date, You’re the Worst, Superstore, The Starling and La Quinceañera. Next, he will star in a romantic comedy titled The Fall.
