Fear the Walking Dead’s season 7 midseason premiere focused on Alicia and the battles she is currently facing. In this episode, she meets someone new, and someone else makes her come to terms with her past actions.

“Follow Me” is the title for the episode and the theme for Alicia, as this is a phrase that haunts her in her dreams. She dreams about the reanimated corpse of Senator Vazquez talking to her and leading her to PADRE. With the help of her new friend Paul (Warren Snipe), she will learn that her dreams are telling her something else altogether.

This week’s MVP was an easy one. This person took the phrase, which is a verse from the bible, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends,” to heart and did just that.

THE MVP FOR FOLLOW ME IS – PAUL

Fear the Walking Dead – Paul

Alicia awakens in a home she doesn’t recognize, which she learns is the home of Paul. He found her unconscious in a barn and brought her back to his house to recuperate.

Paul is a musician who became deaf when Teddy’s bombs detonated. He also lost his wife at that same time. Since then, he has kept to himself and created a space where he listens to music at very high volumes allowing him to feel the music.

Paul and Alicia share their stories with one another, and Paul is vital in protecting Alicia against Arno and the Stalkers. He doesn’t give it a second thought to come out, guns blazing to defend her. Back at his house, when he is shot, he advises Alicia before sacrificing himself, knowing a gunshot to the stomach is a death sentence in an apocalypse.

His death is quite beautiful as he finally plays his wife’s bagpipe edition of “Ode to Joy,” with tears streaming down his face.

Paul gave Alicia the confidence in herself to get back out there and become the leader she is meant to be. Let’s hope she honors him and doesn’t let his death be in vain.
