Fear the Walking Dead episode 709

A leader needs to trust in themselves.

By the end of this week’s episode of Fear The Walking Dead, Paul had helped Alicia realize that part of why she failed to bring her followers to PADRE was because she wasn’t leading but following. She was the proverbial blind being led by the blind and needed to trust her ability to lead. The last thing we saw of Alicia was her accepting her role as leader, committing to calling out to survivors from around the wasteland to lead them to the closest thing they may have to PADRE, Strand’s tower.

I think Alicia’s journey was an important lesson for potential zombie apocalypse survivors. If we’re part of a group, there is always the possibility that the job of leading that group through difficult times could fall to us. If your group’s leader should become incapacitated (or worse, die), and you’re the most experienced person left, guess what? Your group will look to you to lead them, and in order for you to be up to the task, the first thing you need to do is trust in your ability to do it.

It’s entirely possible that you don’t trust your ability to do it and choose to hand the reins to someone you feel better suited for the job. That’s fine. But, if you have no choice but to lead, you need to trust in yourself to do it right.

You need to trust in the decisions you make and, as I said in an earlier entry, not let doubt seep in and strip you of ability to function because, if you do, you’re not just crippling yourself but your entire group.

If you don’t trust yourself to lead in a zombie apocalypse, how can you expect others to?
