Fear the Walking Dead has begun airing the second half of its seventh season on AMC. The midseason premiere “Follow Me” left fans feeling let down as they were ready for the war between Strand and Alicia to begin. This week’s episode is titled “Mourning Cloak” and is the third episode directed by Lennie James, who portrays Morgan Jones.

James began his Walking Dead universe journey in the pilot episode of the flagship series, The Walking Dead. He and his son Duane aided Rick Grimes, who had just awoken from a coma into the world of the undead, unaware of what had been going on in the world.

He would appear in seasons 1 and 3 and then 6-9 until he crossed over to the first spinoff of the universe, Fear the Walking Dead.

James would cross over during the premiere episode of season 4, “What’s Your Story,” when Morgan would encounter another new character in the series, John Dorie. Since that time, Morgan has gone through several trials and a near-death experience.

James stepped behind the camera in season 6 of Fear TWD to direct his first episode, “Welcome to the Club.” This episode was the second of the season, written by Nazrin Choudhury. This episode introduces Zoe Colletti as Dakota.

In the first half of season 7, he directed the “Till Death” episode, written by Ashley Cardiff & Justin Boyd, that saw Aisha Tyler and Alex Skuby make their acting debut in TWD universe.

This week’s episode, “Mourning Cloak,” will be the third episode directed by James, written by Nazrin Choudhury & Calaya Michelle Stallworth. Ashton Arbab is introduced as Ali and Matthew Ramirez as Ranger Garcia.

James isn’t the only cast member to direct episodes of Fear TWD. Colman Domingo was the first actor from the series to direct an episode. He has directed a total of 4, including an upcoming season 7 episode.

Alycia Debnam-Carey will make her directorial debut in the season 7 episode “Ofelia,” which will air on AMC on May 1 and is currently available on AMC+.
