Fear the Walking Dead rolled out another anthology-type episode, this time focusing on Charlie (Alexa Nisenson). Viewers are anxious to see the war between Strand (Colman Domingo) and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), but the creators are taking us on a slow build to this war.

The most recent episode, “Mourning Cloak,” focuses on Charlie and newcomer Ali (Ashton Arbab) in a coming-of-age story with a theme of caterpillars becoming something greater, the butterfly. The teenagers both are at a stage in their lives where they are out to become something greater by proving themselves to someone.

This story, unfortunately, has a sad ending when Ali betrays Howard (Omid Abtahi) and the Tower residents, which sees Howard freak out and throw him off the roof of the building. He rationalizes his action by saying this is what Strand would have done. This may be true, but his next move proves to be a miscalculation as he didn’t see what was to come.

Fear the Walking Dead – June

Howard immediately suspected that Charlie was up to no good when she arrived at the Tower. He knew it was no mistake that she came upon Ali in the woods and that Morgan (Lennie James), a known enemy of the Tower, sent her for his own purpose. When he learned that Ali served out her purpose, betraying what he had once promised to protect, Howard threw him off the roof to the horror of Charlie and June (Jenna Elfman).

Next, he proceeded to go after Charlie, which was a mistake. June immediately steps in to protect the child. When she threatens Howard with death if he harms Charlie, he reminds her she will have to answer to Strand since he is Strand’s right-hand man. Not phased by this, she reminds him that she is vitally more important to Strand as she is the only one with medical knowledge, and without the care she can provide, the Tower will fall.

June then promises Charlie, who is gravely ill due to radiation poisoning, that she will live to see Strand fall no matter how much time she has left.

June is a powerful woman who has been quiet since losing John (Garret Dillahunt). It is great to see her coming back to life with Strand in her sights.
