Fear the Walking Dead Mourning Cloak

1) This week’s “Previously” features Morgan telling Strand about his relocating Charlie, Wes, Daniel, Luciana, and Rabbi Kessner and Strand trying to acclimate to Mo (both from episode 707 “The Portrait”). June and John Dorie Sr. realizing they’re stuck with Strand inside his tower (From episode 703, “Cindy Hawkins”), and Morgan telling Alicia that following Senator Vasquez’s walker hadn’t led them to PADRE but to Strand’s tower (From episode 708, “PADRE”).

2) This episode gets its name from the species of butterfly Ali is assigned to find for Strand: A Mourning Cloak. The species’ brief lifespan also serves as a metaphor for Ali and Charlie’s fate, revealed by the episode’s end.

3) What the hell does Victor want the butterflies for? To pollinate the fruits, flowers, and trees, he’s trying to grow? To repopulate their respective species (Howard does mention that the Mourning Cloak is rare)? Or has Strand just suddenly developed an interest in lepidoptery?

4) This week’s title sequence features a silhouette of Charlie surrounded by butterflies while in a bowling alley on a green background as the title card’s edges burn. The normal theme returns.
