Garret Dillahunt did a fantastic job portraying John Dorie in Fear the Walking Dead. He quickly became a fan favorite, and fans were sorely disappointed when his character was killed off. Dorie was a likable guy whose relationship with June (Jenna Elfman) was something out of an apocalyptic fairytale. Dillahunt enjoyed his time on Fear TWD, but he was ready to do new projects. Since leaving the series, he has been very busy; most recently, he starred in the Michael Bay movie Ambulance and Deadline reports that he has been cast in an action thriller Red Right Hand.

This film is directed by the brothers Ian and Eshom Nelms (Fatman) and written by Jonathan Easley, his first movie script. The story follows Cash (Orlando Bloom), a man trying to live a quiet life in the Appalachian Hills of Odim County with his niece Savannah (Chapel Oaks). He is drawn back into the service of Big Cat (Andie MacDowell), the woman who runs the town, where he learns he is capable of almost anything to protect his family and the town. This includes killing, and he is drawn into a nightmare where good and evil are blurred.

Dillahunt portrays Wilder, an ex-addict turned preacher who advises and protects Cash and his family. The film also stars Brian Geraghty, Mo McRae, Scott Haze and Nicholas Logan.

Garret Dillahunt – Where the Crawdads Sing

Next, Dillahunt can be seen in the movie adaptation of Delia Owens’ novel, Where the Crawdads Sing. He is joined by fellow TWDU actor Jayson Warner Smith (Gavin on The Walking Dead) and  Daisy Edgar-Jones, Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, Michael Hyatt, Sterling Macer Jr., and David Strathairn. This film is scheduled to release in theaters on July 15, 2022.

Garret Dillahunt – Sprung

Another big project Dillahunt has in the works is a series called Sprung, which is an original comedy from writer Greg Garcia and Amazon Freevee. This one is near and dear to his heart as it reunites him with Greg Garcia and Martha Plimpton, who worked together on Raising Hope. Dillahunt stars in, and executive produces with Garcia, Michael Rotenberg, and Jonathan Berry in association with 3 Arts.

Variety reports that Kate Walsh, Camden Garcia and Andre Jamal Kinney have been added to the cast, including previously announced Dillahunt, Plimpton, Shakira Barrera, Phillip Garcia, Clare Gilles and James Earl.

The series follows a group of former inmates who decide to use their criminal skills for good. Jack (Dillahunt), recently released from prison after serving over two decades, finds he has nowhere to live. He moves in with his former cellmate Rooster (P. Garcia) and his mother Barb (Plimpton), and Jack’s former girlfriend Gloria (Barrera). Targeting people who have taken advantage of others due to the pandemic, the group uses their skills to right the wrongs of society.

Dillahunt’s memorable roles include The Guest Book, The Gifted, The Mindy Project, Hand of God, Justified, Army of the Dead, Widows, 12 Years a Slave, Looper, Winter’s Bone and No Country for Old Men.
